FAP Rating 2 - Click for an explanation of our ratings
The Glamorgan is the latest phase in the metamorphosis of the Grouse and Claret, a once sound local boozer, into Croydon's first gastropub. It was therefore with some trepidation that your trusty FAP explorers entered the premises; and our fears were realised, as we tried not to get upset by the assortment of big sofas, stripped wood, gastro greens, and so on. The overall effect is something like Habitat on a slow weekday afternoon. Adnam's, Harvey's and Pride were on tap, though being served in straight glasses rather stripped them of the desired beery resonance. Also available: premium lagers, coffee, a large selection of wines, and food. Sample dish: Creamy Crabmeat Risotto with Chilli and Dill, £6.95. Worth a punt, perhaps, if you like eating that sort of thing in a deserted tavern. Strangely, the only bar snack available was Nobby's Nuts: no crisps! This might be a convenient post-work bar, but lacks buzz, hence our rating. (new photo to come)
