Adam & Eve, Mill Hill
FancyaPint?'s review...
The new look Adam and Eve has been open for a short time now and the change couldn't be more dramatic. The old look was dingy, tired and lacking in customers but now it is popular and buzzy. There are however some avoidable failings which knock their rating down. Firstly, the décor is an issue. Devoid of colour or texture, it veers perilously close towards 'austere'. Sure, there are couches and a couple of high backed chairs next to an open fire, but look up from the attractive parquet floor and you are greeted by a vista of grey. The wood panelling, windows, bar, brickwork and even the curtains were battleship grey. On the drinks front while we commend the commitment to provide no less than six hand pumps, everyone dispenses a predictable, mass market ale: Directors, Deuchar's, Abbot and Doom Bar were those we remember. While well kept, for a pub which prides itself on the providence and quality of its food offering, to omit a single small brewer - perhaps from a newer London micro - is a lost opportunity. We suspect they are stymied by whichever restrictive pubco is backing this place but frankly, why bother with so many similar ones? With regard to the food, it is certainly prominent now and while the menu looks heartily interesting (a couple of game dishes caught our eye) the prices are certainly above average. A small note we saw on the menus also essentially implies that those who have booked can expect better service. That probably suits them fine here, as according to their booking facility the restaurant area is already fully booked a week in advance. Overall, while their success seems assured, we found it to be too cold and overtly aspirational to relax properly.

Hi All,
The Adam and Eve is indeed closed at the moment. However, we hope to re-open it under new management in December 2010 with a new layout and a strong food offering.
The 'Adam' is currebtly undergoing a much needed refurbishment that includes opening up the previously rather dingy ground floor area, moving the kitchen and WCs to first floor, converting the manager's flat into function rooms on first floor, hopefully adding a conservatory and sprucing up the garden.
We do hope that you can join us for the re-launch and further details can be found on our website.
