Despite being part of the Mr Q's pub chain - the Costcutter of the pub world - this is ostensibly quite a good pub. The pretty early 20th century exterior, along with the original leaded glass and wood panelling lead you to think you might be in for a treat here. It doesn't quite pan out that way, but it's still an adequate place for a drink. Still retaining two separate rooms, the right hand bar is the more relaxed, as the left hand side - with it's cheap carpeting and visual tsunami of TVs blaring out MTV - is very much in the Mr Q's mould. This theme continues out the back, where more TVs abound, supported by a terrible sound system and flanked by three pool tables, including a fun 'L' shaped one. Our Guinness had a nasty chemical taste, as if the line-cleaning fluid hadn't been flushed out properly, but it was exchanged with a genuine apology from the pleasant staff. With all those TVs, it picks up a lot of football-watching trade, while weekend evenings finds it a lively place. Pop in you happen to find yourself at a loose end in Homerton.
