After a period of closure, the Angel is serving once more. It's had a comprehensive refurbishment which is thankfully sympathetic to the history of the place. Perhaps this pub is now ready to capitalise on its superb location. Whether you're sitting outside on the terrace or inside near a window, the Thames is impossible to ignore. Passing river traffic of various types and eras will catch your attention, as well as the very fine view towards Tower Bridge and beyond. There are a couple of pleasant (and fairly private) rooms near the bar downstairs and a handsome upstairs room with sofas, comfy chairs and historical pictures on the walls. A varied menu of main courses is available for less than a tenner, and the beer is Samuel Smith's usual range. After a dubious past, things are looking up for the Angel.
