The Artful Dodger is a handsome, colourful Victorian building, with some internal features also remaining in a rather dingy setting. It's very much a locals' pub, but not unfriendly and it seems to do the job very well (well everyone looked pretty happy when we were last in there). There's Sky sport on the telly a pool table and sarnies and snacks if you're hungry. Sometimes (not every time we've been in) there's real ale on - we've seen Timothy Taylor's Landlord, Greene King and Courage best on the hand pumps. The Artful Dodger's out-of-the-way location means few people find it (although thousands see it everyday from the DLR) and it's probably why this pub has such a local, traditional feel to it. There aren't many pubs like this left, unfortunately.
