Asparagus, Clapham Junction
FancyaPint?'s review...
As Fancyapint? reviewers, with an obvious appreciation of pubs, it saddens our hearts that the Wetherspoon experience is so rarely positive. The newer branches just look like bland hotel lobbies, while the older types simply get more and more rundown - like this one, the Asparagus. The usual cheap prices and well-kept ales did little to compensate for the soulless and depressing atmosphere. It may have been popular, with a broad mix of people - including the chain's usual lone old men - and we guess it's become a bit of a haven in these tough economic times (they're not opening another 600 branches because they lose money), but for us it's still the same argument: good beer alone just doesn't equal a good pub.
