To describe this as the most agreeable pub in the built-up area north-east of Gallows Corner is rather to damn with faint praise, but there is no avoiding that this status is the Bear's most redeeming feature. It is acceptably civilised, with nice big tables and sofas, and appeals as much for its Harvester-like food as for its drink. The mood is relaxed and comfortable, and the pub is very spacious, with a big beer garden too. Not an earth-shattering place, but far superior to the nearby alternatives.

Do not think about ordering food if you wish to sit at the dining tables in the garden. When mine hadn't arrived for half an hour. I learned that 'health and safety' regulations prevent bar staff from bringing it down the steps.
