Benny's Bar, Shoreditch
FancyaPint?'s review...
Emerging from the remnants of the Austin Cafe and Gallery, Benny's Bar is a tiny place sitting right at the top of the busy bit of Brick Lane. Less frenetic than other nearby places, it is a long and narrow affair, with some squashy chairs at the back. The drink choice is somewhat limited, with only bottles on offer, but the Leffe went down well enough. The highlight here however is the lovely beer garden out the back. Decorated with multicoloured lights above our heads, the walls are festooned with some great graffiti and murals. There's also a bit of recycling in action, as the stools are made from old beer crates stuck together. The old basement gallery is now an empty under-utilised space, so we wonder how they will choose to use it. Anyway, Benny's is an unpretentious alternative to some of the other try-hard bars around Brick Lane.
