The Betsey Trotwood is a good example of a traditional, cosy Shepherd Neame pub. Located right on Farringdon road, you'll find a good range of their own ales on the hand pumps, usually including a seasonal brew, while on the lager front you'll find Oranjeboom and Asahi on tap. There's a decent drop of whiskey, too. On the food front, a decent selection of classic British pub grub can be found, generally priced at just under a tenner; the pie of the day comes locally sourced from Borough Market and is certainly worth trying. What makes this place stand out, however, is the selection of live events which take place both in the upstairs room and the lovely cellar bar - comedy and live bands sit alongside regular music nights, including and folk festival and a monthly Alt. Country and Americana evening. The clientele is a good mix, varying depending on what event is on, while lunchtimes find local office workers and designers skiving off for a couple jars in the pub. Combined with friendly and accommodating staff, this is a pretty good little spot.
