This pub, now resplendent on the outside with flames painted on the walls, is a favourite haunt of students from the nearby university and those seeking a more alternative experience on Holloway Road. The subtly lit interior is dominated by a large rectangular bar, which is surrounded on three sides by seating, including several cosy booths. At the far end stand four pool tables and a pinball machine. The jukebox sets the tone in the evenings and it doesn't disappoint, especially for fans of classic rock. Previously we found the bar staff tended to look aggrieved when you interrupted them by doing something audacious like ordering a pint, but this seems to have improved. They can get plenty of practice as Big Red has a late licence.

plenty of potential but let down by miserable, incompentent and impolite bar staff! For a warmer welcome with similar atmos, try Ace's & Eights a 5 min bus ride from this moody place.

We went on a Saturday night - the bar staff are nice and efficient, the man on the door is rude and obnoxious, the music was really disappointing, more dad rock.

I used to love this pub. I hadn't been awhile, and went with a friend last night. The giant goon on the door informed us that he wasn't letting us in because he'd been informed by management that he wasn't supposed to let in people that 'looked as though they'd had drinks in another pub'. We'd had about 3 pints. The guy was totally rude and aggressive. The most rock 'n' roll pub in London is one I won't be visiting again. Absurd.

The service has definitely improved. This place has the quickest, most efficient bar staff in London! And the coolest looking... ; )
