Apparently built in 1720, the Black Lion retains some attractive features today. Its ornate original brickwork, and later Victorian ceiling and columns, are lovely. However, the elegant surroundings are somewhat compromised by the pub of today. Sure, there's enough selection to keep you sufficiently fed and watered, but the big TV doesn't really add anything. You can well imagine that this was a charming pub in bygone centuries, but today it's marred by the heavy traffic on Bayswater.
