We've come across Wetherspoon pubs in so many old cinemas and showrooms that it's actually a shock to find one in an old pub. That's the only slight deviation here from the JDW norm of cheap beer and big screen sport. Just as important in considering this one though, is the old dictum about the nearer it is to a railway station, the worse the pub. And whilst the Barge isn't the worst local you'll ever visit, we can't see many takers for it coming from outwith the SE4 area. This one does provide some sort of balance to the (growing numbers of) cafe-bars on Brockley Road, but it's still not a place we can get too hot under the collar about.
