The Builders Arms is a trendy, modern gastropub, with real ales, continental-style cool lagers, wines and spirits. It's had a reputation for excellent food, though in recent time it's been suggested the quality's deteriorated, but the number of people eating when we were in last indicates it's back on course. The slightly quirky interior is pleasant enough - check out the Mona Lisa montage with fish - with an open fire and a long zinc bar in the main pub area. The locals seem to like it and the prices are pretty reasonable for the area, which is probably why the posties were sitting outside on our last visit. It's got three pumps with regular guest beers (St Austell's Tribute was on last time we were in) as well as the aforementioned lagers. And while it can get packed on the weekends, it's very civilised on a weekday afternoon.
