Butcher's Hook, Fulham
FancyaPint?'s review...
The plaque outside says 'Greene King' but this one's a far cry from the other pub in the area that serves their beers Link to Fox & Pheasant. Yes, it's a gastropub, but we feel it's one that's had a bit of thought put into it. It's not a large space but it's been arranged in a smart and tidy way. We particularly like the fact that the speakers for the TV hang over the drinking area (a long, high, table that's closer to terracing than anything in Stamford Bridge) and so needn't disrupt the diners. The food's fairly upmarket (the ham in a rack on the bar, from which the staff carve slices on request, is an untypical sight for your average pub), there's only two beers on the taps, both by Greene King, a decent wine list and friendly staff. The power was off when we were in last, but they were coping admirably and got us a drink pretty sharpish and it hadn't put off their other customers either. Now, what the atmosphere's like on match day remains to be seen, but if any club has fans that'll dip into a bar for a quick drink and a Strawberry Eton Fool Mess, it's present day Chelsea.
