Cambridge, Leicester Square
FancyaPint?'s review...
Another easy-to-find pub in the West End, which seems to be doing pretty well since it's move into the Nicholson's chain. These pubs make a play for the tourist market, with prominent signs for 'traditional fish and chips' and notices making as much mention as they can of the pubs' history. The overall effect is not unlike that of the Sam Smith's pubs in London: the chains sharing a lack of TVs and an attachment to recreating 'traditional' pub interiors. Whereas the Sam pubs offer a variety of interiors, the West End Nicholson's are rather more of a type, with their similar furnishings. On our most recent visit, the Cambridge was certainly pulling in a crowd of overseas visitors, though not too many seemed willing to try the four different ales on tap (and available on 'try before you buy'). This one fits the bill as a pub to meet up in and there's always the upstairs room - which everyone seems to miss, somehow.
