At the point where the elegant sweep of Georgian townhouses and Edwardian apartments of Maida Vale are replaced by 1960s low rise council housing of Kilburn Park, the Carlton Tavern looks rather out of place. There's a fantastic tiled exterior which is, at least in part, complimented by the interior; it maybe tatty but its also pretty unmolested - check out the fireplace and plasterwork on the ceiling to see what we mean. Ours was an out of hours visit so only a handful of older locals were in situ all watching the racing, but the landlady gets tops marks for making us feel genuinely welcome - she knew everyone's name and we suspect with a few more visits under our belt she would know ours too.

Fully support the action and the decision by Westminster Council but I'm afraid the pub's gone forever. The developer will always find a way out of rebuilding and it'll remain a wreck for the foreseeable future until the council finally get fed up of seeing it and eventually clear the site.

What about the company that owns the bulldozers and actually knocked it down. Aren't they guilty of criminal damage for not checking they had the correct permission. I'd hate for them to come round and bulldoze my place because one of my neighbours phoned them up and told them to.

Pub must be rebuilt brick by brick, orders council, after developers tore it down to build flats //

The owners of a historic London pub who triggered outrage by demolishing it without permission are to be ordered to rebuild it brick by brick.

Council chiefs will next week issue an unprecedented enforcement notice to the firm that owns the Carlton Tavern in Maida Vale requiring it to “recreate in facsimile the building as it stood immediately prior to its demolition”.

The owners, Tel Aviv-based developers CLTX Ltd, ordered bulldozers in to reduce the early 1920s building to rubble earlier this month after staff were told to stay at home for an inventory.

Robert Davis, deputy leader of Westminster council, said he was “absolutely horrified” at the “scandalous” destruction.

The enforcement notice is scheduled to be approved by the council’s planning committee next Tuesday. That will stop the owners from selling the site until the building has been restored.

It is thought this is the first instance of a local council ordering a building be reconstructed from the ground up. he council has arranged for the pub to be listed as a non-designated heritage asset, a status which should prevent it being pulled down in future.

In January, Westminster threw out a planning application to replace the redbrick pub with flats.

This pub got demolished in Apr 2015 by the developer who was either incensed at being refused planning permission for flats by Westminster Council, or thought it the most efficient route to get the go ahead once any fines had been paid. Yes, absolutely outrageous.

• Tom’s mum works behind the bar
• Chelsea hooligans flex their calf muscles at you, tell you how they put police in hospital and can’t “blaaaady go to the game cos they’ve taken me passport off me”
• “I’ll get you the menu lads” means I’ll hand you a pizza takeaway menu and ring and place the order for you
• Out the back is a half decent looking beer garden but you can’t drink out there as its only for mint tea and shisha, which ends up resembling a “you can come in this pub but you have to stick with your own out the back” policy for non-whites.
• The barmaid walks out frequently to the estate on the other side of the road whilst her mum/the landlady?!? chases after calling her the C word.
• You sometimes get a free round if their card reader doesn’t work
