The Carpenters Arms has been one of our favourite pubs in this area for a long time. The pub itself is a pleasant old, traditional looking boozer a little off the beaten track in a heavily touristed area. Dark and cosy with lots of stuff on the walls (including some nice Victorian tile work) and an excellent, varied and ever-changing range of beers on the hand pumps - at least six different ones when we were in last. The service is good and while there used to be food ordered from the restaurant across the road (now shut) we haven't seen anyone eating in here for a while. Saturday afternoons are great if you want to while away an hour or two with the sport on the TVs, though it can get a bit crowded if a big match is on.

The service and range of real ales can be extremely variable. This afternoon, for example, they appeared to have been fielding their reserve team behind the bar!
