Undergoing a bit of a refurb on the outside, we can't say the inside's changed in years (although the Double Diamond and Tolly Cobbold ale taps have both gone); it's a bit of a time capsule from about 30 years ago. That's not necessarily a bad thing, as the staff and the locals are friendly enough. With tellies spread about the place, sport's a big deal here, but then so is live music and the darts team. It's a traditional boozer, through and through, and unapologetically so. There's a couple of ales on the taps, kids are apparently allowed in and on warm days the walls fold back to allow a cool breeze to enter the pub. You could do worse and if it sounds like your cup of tea, maybe you should head there now.

For a pub near Kings Cross, its one of the best. Definitely worth a visit. Decent people, very nice staff. Worth a pint or two in here.

Easiest way to get there is to leave King's Cross from the King's Cross Thameslink station, turn right and then right again down King's Cross Road. Walk past the Golden Lion, then the Northumberland Arms and you'll eventually come to the Carpenters.
