For a long time the Carpenters Arms was one of the many unremarkable pubs dotted around the Tottenham Court Road area. A decent enough pub, but not one to set the pulses racing. Cue a makeover into one of M&B's unbranded pubs and this one has perked up. There's now a reinvigorated interior (M&B style), a plentiful supply of interesting drink to choose from, a good menu and a roof terrace for the warmer (and drier) days. Metamorphosing from a drab and sparsely frequented local, to a very popular watering hole for the creative types who work nearby, the Carpenters Arms is certainly worth a look if you're in the area, if you can get in.

Used the web reservation form at the start of the week to book a table for 14 people in for a pub meal on a Friday evening. Several telephone conversations were had during the week as the numbers varied from day to day but the final conversation on Friday morning confirmed the number at 14. "See you at 7.30" said the lady at the end of the phone. We arrived at 7.00 for a pre-dinner drink to be told that pub doesn't "do reservations" (why the web reservation form then?), and "we have no tables available","if you wanted to eat you really needed to have been here by 6pm!" This may or may not be a good pub (it must be doing ok if it can turn down over £500 revenue) but we didn't stay to find out - whatever else it is, do not rely on getting fed here.
