In amongst the odd mix of social housing and Victorian splendour which typifies the back streets of Stockwell, the Cavendish Arms was, until recently, one of those tired and ugly 1960's pubs dominated by gruff locals. However, in the Autumn 2007 it was taken over and turned into a worthwhile and interesting music venue. And it seems to be working. The front bar is dark, luxuriant and comfortable, filled with leather chesterfields and deep red walls. There's a stock choice of lager but you can also find some well kept London Pride and a small selection of reasonable priced Pieminster Pies (the Moo Pie caught our eye, for nothing else than it's cutesy name). Meanwhile, the back room is where you'll find all sorts of entertainment, from live bands and comedy to burlesque to theatre and performance. Entry prices range from free to about a fiver, depending on the night. It doesn't open until 4pm, so not one to while away an afternoon in. We can only continue to wish them the best of luck and try and catch some gigs in the near future.

This place is a hidden gem! Such a find, the atmosphere is lovely and relaxed, there's a lovely drink selection and friendly bar staff. Seems to also have a lovely variety of entertainment going on through out the week. So plenty to keep everyone entertained!

If you like pubs that are like treasure chests then come here! When I went there was a tombola with allsorts of prizes from vintage Nokia phone covers to 70's roller skates...nostalgia! Good atmosphere and friendly staff.

This place is like my nan's front room - in a good way! Great selection of bottled ciders and good quality cask ales. They also nearly always have something happening in the back room (comedy, bands etc), and it's often free. Definitely the best pub in the area.

This pub has quite a hip and happening atmosphere... with its quirky decor and log fire, it is a hidden gem of a pub. One of my local favourites! The bar staff are incredibly friendly, and I would recommend trying the mulled apple juice with a splash of rum (mmmmm).

Along with a good selection of drinks we also make up a fresh batch of Hot spiced Mulled Apple Juice every day. Try it with Rum or on it's own. Perfect to drink whilst infront of the real log fire during the winter months!

 

Every Monday & Tuesday is our popular Comedy Virgins event, where you will be entertained by up to 15 comics performing a 5 minute set each. Pop down early on the Tuesdays tho as our Pub Organist performs from 7.15 - 7.45 before the comedy starts. (and it's Free Entry!)
