This pub's stayed steadfastly the same for a while now - a mix of traditional pub and a place to get pretty good food. The larger of the two bars tends to be set for meals whenever we go in, with drinkers in the smaller bar. The staff are pleasant and helpful, particularly when looking for a table at which to eat. With three ales on the taps, the usual assortment of lagers and drinks behind the bar and an international wine list (including an English wine when they can get it), most drinkers are catered for. As we had popped in for lunch, we automatically looked at the lunch menu, but after seeing one or two of the selections delivered to nearby tables, we decided 'lunch' meant 'snack', as the portion sizes border on nouvelle cuisine smallness. The food was good, when we eventually chose larger dishes, but the size of portions for the prices charged would be our only real quibble. It's comfortable, beer's good and if you're eating it's worth a look. We'd be happy to be snugged up in the corner right now with a paper and a pint.
