Odd place this. It's a long, narrow pub with no decent beer (not even Guinness) and little to attract passing custom. When we dropped by, a couple of older locals were playing pool as the gaffer looked on quietly. A stream of melancholy 1960s pop fuelled a nagging feeling that life was happening elsewhere. Lunchtime snacks are available, however, to lift one's spirits, and the Mermaid pole-dancing club next door may help too. With Woolwich's best boozer (Rose's) around the corner, though, why would you bother with this place?

Its shut down now...and frankly, good riddance. HOWEVER...the infrastructure of this old building would/could make a good pub...but sadly, the surrounding shops- nasty chicken outlets, pawn brokers etc, will probably make an "upgrade" impossible.

I HAVE BEEN TO THIS PUB A NUMBER OF TIMES BECUASE OF THIER CHEEP BEERS AND GOOD MUSIC.I HAVE FOUND THAT IT IS EASY TO MAKE FRIENDS THERE AS MOST REGULARS COME FROM GET TO TALK TO YOU. THE STAFF ARE ALSO FRIENDLY AND THE LAND LADY IS FIRM AND ALSO EASY TO TALK TO. I WILL RECOMMEND THIS PUB TO OTHER PEOPLE.

How to find the Coopers Arms pub

From Woolwich Arsenal station, cross General Gordon Place and walk down Powis Street (more or less straight ahead of you) for a few minutes - it's the main pedestrianised shopping street in Woolwich. Turn right into Hare Street (at Dorothy Perkins) and walk right to the end. When you're opposite the Waterfront Leisure Centre, turn left and you'll see the pub on your left.
