Crobar, Soho
FancyaPint?'s review...
Punny name aside, if you like your bars 'alternative' rather than 'stylish' then the Crobar is probably the best place to drink in Soho. The bottled beer and cocktail choice is pretty good, but the selection of bourbon is staggering. We also spied a Jagermeister dispensing machine we couldn't quite fathom. Jukebox tunes come from the rock/metal end of the spectrum, so expect the likes of AC/DC, Agents of Oblivion and Monster Magnet, a clientele who know their music and toilets best avoided if possible. Speaking of which, the crowd wasn't all piercings and Anthrax T-shirts but there weren't any of the suited brigade who fill nearby pubs; we're not sure how much they'd appreciate it here anyway. Either way, you'll find a good, attitude free, lively atmosphere and great service. There's also the bonus of a late licence, but watch out for a £4 charge after 10pm. Still, with a happy hour running until 9pm there's every incentive to get here early and not leave until they throw you out at closing time.

This place is great, but I really wanted to like it even more. It is really small, but it wasn't too packed out. The main reason for going to this bar is obviously the music, so if you love metal (as I do) you can't go far wrong. It is very cheap too, £7 for 1 can of Red Stripe and 2 bottles of Heineken. The stairs to the tiny toilet are deadly, esp after a few drinks. Really worth a visit, but be prepared for rough and ready, loud and sweaty!
