Crown & Anchor, Chiswick
FancyaPint?'s review...
A venerable pub in the heart of Aveley, the Crown and Anchor has probably seen better days: the exterior paintwork is worn and flaking and the hanging baskets could use some living organisms. Still, it's not so bad. Inside, the bar area is long but narrow so make sure you don't spill anyone's pint whilst finding a seat. Intriguingly, Double Diamond is served on tap here too, as well as the nearby Ship Inn. A Shepherd Neame ale was the other beer highlight on our visit. The fireplace could be cosy in the winter - this is a decent enough place overall.

How to find the Crown & Anchor pub
You could walk here from Purfleet or Chafford Hundred c2c stations if you had to, but both are a good 30 minutes' walk away, and the terrain from either is not the most friendly. Bus route 373 stops nearby, arriving from Romford, Upminster Bridge and Upminster stations in one direction, and Lakeside bus station (not far from Chafford Hundred rail) and Grays in the other, but it's not terribly frequent.
