A welcoming and rather expansive country inn located in the centre of the village of Woodford Bridge. We enjoyed the selection of real ales on the hand pumps and the smart, well-kept, appearance of the building, with a yucca plant providing visual distraction below wood-beamed mansard roofing. With not-too-loud pop music playing in the background, we found this a perfectly cosy place to visit for a drink, a rather charming place of repose.

How to find the Crown & Crooked Billet pub

Not near to any station, but you could walk it in 20-30 minutes or so from Woodford tube, or bus it from there: Leave the station by the Snakes Lane East exit (or, if that is closed, by the Snakes Lane Exit, then go through the subway under the railway immediately outside the station), and continue ahead for around ten minutes. At the end, turn left along Chigwell Road and pass underneath the M11 bridge. Continue ahead for a few minutes until you reach a big green area on the left. The pub is on the left at the far side of the green. Alternatively, take bus 275 towards Barkingside from Snakes Lane East.
