Cutty Sark Tavern, Greenwich
FancyaPint?'s review...
Confusingly, the Cutty Sark Tavern is not as near to the Cutty Sark (well, what's left of it) as you'd imagine. There are quite a few pubs a lot nearer that would possibly better qualify for the name. Still, once you find it (it's a five minute walk down river) it's a jolly decent place. The Georgian building and the riverside terrace are what a visit here worthwhile. And there are fine beers to be enjoyed here as a bonus. There's an ever-changing range of fine ales such as Summer Ale, Broadside and Tiger as well as decent cider and wine, depending on the seasons. The service is polite and prompt and copes admirably with the crowds as they flock down here on a warm summer's evening (on the rare occasions we get them). The food's decent as well. Off season, it's a very nice place for a pint or two with it's excellent views and relaxed atmosphere, it's a cosy pub in winter. The freneticism of the summer months may remove some of the shine - but such is the way with many tourist pubs. However, the Cutty Sark is well worth a visit, any time of the year.
