We've not been back to this one for quite a while - it's a little off the beaten track and, to be honest, we forget it's there sometimes. The clientele obviously don't as they'd happily filled up the garden on a warm and sunny afternoon when we were last in. The beer selection kept to Cask Marque standards will keep most ale-pundits happy and it changes regularly. Interior-wise, it's darker than we remember and quite eclectic, ranging from butcher-block tables to a stag's head in a corner to a red velvet covered booth in one corner. Food on the menu is more gastro-oriented, which is no surprise considering where it is (the Veuve Cliquot umbrellas on the patio underline this), but we quite fancied the pork belly - it made us salivate just to think about! This one is one to seek out for a pleasant afternoon, although we understand it gets very busy in the evenings towards the end of the week, just proving its popularity.

Tucked away on Marloes Road, a stone’s throw from the boutique-lined streets of South Kensington, The Devonshire Arms is one of West London’s best-kept secrets. More of a local trap than a tourist one, its elegant cream exterior is a welcomesight in a well-dressed stretch the neighbours call ‘Stratford Village’. Now this old favourite has a fresh lick of paint, not to mention refreshed range of exceptional craft ale and beer, giving those in the know another reason to pull up a stool.

Detailed Description

It may have had a refresh but The Devonshire Arms remains a proper pub faithful to its beer fans – with an unrivaled range of draught beers and cask ales to keep everyone ‘hoppy’. The well-stocked, exposed brick bar has everything from London and Brooklyn lager to German Franziskaner Weissbier. Along with a fantasticselection of world wines and homemade delights including their hangover-hitting Bloody Mary.

Totally transformed, the new-and-improved Devonshire Arms takes inspiration from its tasteful clientele. Oxblood leather, opulent crystal chandeliers and duck egg walls wink at the member’s clubs in the area, whilst reclaimed furniture and pre-1900 prints of the area reference the long-forgotten stories surrounding it. Whether present or past, slip comfortably into embossed banquettes for a leisurely post work pint, delicious mid-week dinner or weekend lunch with friends.

Always a popular summer hangout, The Devonshire’s garden has been given a good raking over adding essential space for catching those rare bursts of English sunshine. Seating an extra twenty, the prettiest outdoor area in the West can also betotally covered – meaning drinks can be enjoyed alfresco whatever theweatherman says.

Unpretentious pub grub is everything you want it to be – filling, delicious and perfect when accompanied by a pint. Tuck into modern classics such as chicken & ham hock pie with mash; pork & chorizo burger with caramalised red onion & fries; or brilliant bar snacks such as Gloucester Old Spot sausage rolls and homemade fish fingers with tartare sauce.

Weekends see the addition of The Devonshire’s Saturday brunch menu with dishes including the ‘Breakfast of Champions’ sharing breakfast for two – an impressive spread of double up sausages, bacon, black pudding, fried egg, bubble & squeak, baked tomato, mushrooms & brisket beans – served in a cask iron pan with toast for dipping. Not to mention incomparable Sunday roasts with all the trimmings including Norfolk pork and Shropshire chicken.
