All Bar One sat here for 13 years, but in all the time fancyapint has been reviewing we never made it there. Now however it has closed to make way for the latest branch of Wetherspoon. Considering their first was just up the road in Muswell Hill, it seems rather fitting. While we're not always fans of Wetherspoons (they can be akin to God's waiting room, with a licence), this one is actually rather decent. Sure, we prefer the warmth of the Railway Tavern or the traditional feel of the Harringey Arms, but it certainly succeeds at what it's trying to do. The decor is modern, but sufficiently interesting to give it some character, while the JDW commitment to serving (cheap) real ale is in full force here. Apparently some locals are up in arms at the thought of an allegedly downmarket booze emporium denigrating their High Street (forgetting about the nearby former Wishing Well), but the initial signs are that it will fit in here just fine.

Somewhere between good and mediocre

I've eaten in the Devonshire House, new Weatherspoons in Crouch End on several occasions, and each time I've left thinking, it was OK, but not fantastic.

Today was no exception, we were interupted at the till when paying for food with a second member of staff inturupting mid transaction.

We ordered 2 Gammon with egg, served with a side dish of chips/salad etc of choice. The eggs were barely cooked, the portion of chips that of a childs portion, and the dish Initially came minus the pinapple rings. When these did arrived they were tiny, and dry.

On previous occasion I've ordered a burger, far to much meat, or a chicken dish, where the chicken tasted quite honestly of low quality.

For a pub that prides itself on quality ingredients its a let down. Ok for an occasional party, but it gets tedios after a few times. Only alcaholic drinks are listed on the menu. Disabled seating is limited to the front half of the pub. 3 out of 5..
