Dicey's The Galway Hooker, Neasden
FancyaPint?'s review...
We reckon that this is by some way the most atmospheric pub in Neasden, even if it is, perhaps, just a little contrived. Still, for a building that appears to have started out as a Woolies, it's come a long way. It is a proper Irish boozer, with a few walled-off areas, many knickknacks, bottled Magner's cider, served in a pint glass with ice. One is inclined to say that even the most hardened follower of Pope Benedict XVI would approve of the condom machine in the gents, given that it was rusty and looked as though it might not have worked for years. We found this boozer to be a good place to watch racing, and to observe, in passing, that the tiny stretch of Neasden Lane that Dicey's is located on has nearly as many as bookies as it has pubs. We also saw posters announcing a forthcoming concert of Bollywood music in the pub, to complement the regular Sunday afternoon performances of Irish music. Seems like an agreeable venue in its own right, not just a place to visit en route to the night club upstairs.
