Hidden away in the suburbs of Winchmore Hill, this small boozer fulfils the needs of its regulars. Its small scale can feel rather cramped but that's probably due to its popularity rather than any design flaws. Whereas most of the other pubs in the area have had their interiors touched up this one has stayed true to its roots: aside from some flat screen TVs pub design trends have largely passed this one by. Catering as much for rugby as for football fans (sometimes at the same time) this one can fill up (especially as few of the other pubs nearby have TVs). Escape in the summer months comes in the form of a neat little beer garden at the rear, but this one equally fits the bill as a cosy winter boozer. Mix in a decent selection of beers and it all adds up to a cracking little local pub.

How to find the Dog & Duck pub

Easiest way is from Winchmore Hill train station (WAGN). Exit, cross the road and turn right. At the Green take the left fork down Hoppers Road. Keep going and you'll find the pub on your right just before the road meets Bourne Hill. The other way to get here is to take the W9 from Southgate tube and get off just after the bus turns off Bourne Hill and onto Hoppers Road. Keep an eye out for the pub as it's a hail and ride bus and you'll have to shout to get the bus driver to stop (the louder you scream the faster he goes).
