Drapers Arms, Islington
FancyaPint?'s review...
Five pints for this gastropub that does have a focus on food but which is happy to let you nurse a pint. Frankly, even if you go in there for a quick drink, you're likely to bow to the inevitable and eat something, if only one or two of the excellent bar snacks. The wine list is simply first rate and even the wines by the glass are very interesting - keenly priced, too, given the quality. Beer nuts are well-catered for, with cask beer represented by Harveys Best, Trumans Runner and Sambrooks, while Brooklyn Lager and Camden Hells keep the keg offer interesting. The food is stunning and very good value. Ox heart salad, whole crab, rack of lamb, onglet steak...expertly prepared, inexpensive and unpretentious fare. This is as close as dammit to British bistro perfection and deserves wider recognition for its excellence.
