The Duchess of Kent is a real local pub for local people, in an area where reality is something of a rare commodity. The interior is best described as functional, but you might spy the nice old Watney's logo above the bar. You won't find anything special on the booze front (mass market lagers is as exciting as it gets), but the service is polite and friendly, but probably more comfortable with the regulars. Still the punters are a nice bunch and will happily engage in a bit of banter, if you're in the right frame of mind. A jukebox will often make way for live entertainment, such as the Friday night Karaoke, which sees everyone joining in the fun. If you're after artisan beers and gastropub food, you won't find it here, but if you want to see the way pubs once were then you could do worse than having a couple of pints here.

How to find the Duchess of Kent pub

Not an easy one to find, this pub. From the Angel tube head up Upper Street and then fork right onto Essex Road. Walk along Essex Road for a while and turn right down Packington Street. Walk along Packington Street and you'll soon get to Prebend Street where you should see the pub in front of you. It should take about 10-15 minutes to walk.
