Duke of Cambridge, Battersea
FancyaPint?'s review...
A fairly early conversion to gastro, this pub still reflects, as we've said before, the upmarket aspirations of the area. Just off the hard-to-reach Battersea Park Road, with its mix of boutiques and Estate Agents, this is another one of Young's stripped down traditional pubs which, while it apparently meets the needs of the locals, leaves us a bit cold. There's nothing much to complain about, and that's the problem. The beer's well-kept, the menu suitably gastro, the staff attentive, but that certain something that would make us go out of our way to go here seems to be missing. The fact that it's home to a hockey club didn't really surprise us, either. Shame, as it's a handsome place and if it's your local, you could do worse. Oh, and kids are apparently allowed, as there appeared to be a children's party out the back on our last visit.
