Duke of Clarence , South Kensington
FancyaPint?'s review...
You'll find this a much more gastro-fied affair than the 'slouchy' Drayton Arms almost across the road, and it lives up to most of those expectations - but in a good way. Three ales on the hand pumps, Adnam's and two of Sharp's offerings, Doom Bar and the Cornish ale were on when we were in last. The staff are attentive and do a great job of keeping everyone happy. And, while we know they're becoming somewhat ubiquitous (particularly in London, for some reason) the handmade scotch eggs available on the bar are to die for. The food is a bit more upmarket than across the road, and the prices reflect that. There are tellies scattered around the place so it's not strictly gastro, providing diversions that include football and rugby matches. Still, if you're wanting a place to go that's a little more special, but still a pub, this is ideal.
