Having recently survived the ignominy of being converted into flats, the Duke of Hamilton has received a facelift under the management of the people who run the excellent Barnsbury in Islington. It had began to feel somewhat tired in it's last couple of years and the changes have put this pub firmly back on track. Happily much of the interior is as it always was, so you'll find a homely traditional pub, now fitted with new carpets and lustred red walls. A cosy cellar has also been opened up and we hear live music is on the cards. Almost essentially food now features, although not prominently; thankfully it's not the pizzas we saw when the Duke appeared on The Apprentice but proper well made pub grub. They haven't forgotten the ale though, with a couple of guest ales complimented by London Pride (brought back at the behest of a few more vocal regulars) and even smoked beer in bottles. Sadly though we did overhear that the excellent Meantime London Stout is being replaced by generic mass market Guinness. Probably the only negative here is the vague feeling that one or two frequent faces treat the place like a private members club with a suitably unfriendly demeanour. Still, the new Duke deserves a solid four pint rating.

Overview

A classic locals pub that has now been cleaned up but left with the classic features of the old pub, many locals come in, and are fun, friendly and even gossip like old women, kinda funny really, like a TV show.

we have great ale selection, and we also have a bar below the pub called The Hideaway which is a sports bar with a rugby bias, great fun

We do hope to see you, your very welcome and we will go out of our way to make you feel welcome and have fun. We are not a gastro, we simply do great drinks, bar snacks and we always have fun. HAPPY PEOPLE WELCOME!
