One of the closest real 'locals' pubs to Oxford Street, it's possible to get a decent seat here, even at busy times like Friday tea time. Considering its size and location though, this is quite an achievement. There's three taps for real ale, only one of which was on when we were last in. The menu's gone a bit more traditional and there are daily specials on the blackboards. One can hardly help but notice the upright piano in the front bar and it's hardly surprising there's regular live music nights on Sundays, complimented with a quiz on Thursdays. The staff are friendly and efficient and the local workers who were in when we last visited seemed happy enough with their lot. While this pub is near Tony Blair's London gaff, we've yet to hear a report of him popping in for a swift half. And judging by the small crop of celebrity photos arranged at one end of the room, he'd probably be up there if he had come in! Although, that said, we only recognised Jack Black in the four that are there...

The Duke of Kendal is now under new management.

The whole place has been redecorated, new loos.

The Thai food has (thankfully) gone. Real home-cooked pub grub now.

June still plays the piano every Sunday evening for the traditional sing-song.
