Duke of Wellington, Old Street
FancyaPint?'s review...
Not every 'old boozer' in N1 has been turned into a gastropub (yet) and a wander on the back streets can yield some odd results. The Duke of Wellington is once such place. Tucked away only a couple of minutes from Jamie Oliver's '15' we don't expect many diners pop in here first for a pre-meal drink. It's a simple affair, filled with locals erring on the older side, Flowers IPA and Glen Campbell playing un-ironically from the jukebox (there are no musical guilty pleasures here). We didn't get any 'locals only' stares and were happily able to just get on with the business of enjoying a drink in a normal pub. Of course one can't help wonder how long this kind of place in such a location can survive in the long term.
