Earl Ferrers, Streatham
FancyaPint?'s review...
It's been a while since we've been out to this one and we're delighted that it's remained a great boozer. Located round the back of Streatham Go-Karting track, on the corner in a grid of Victorian terrace houses, this place oozes an updated but genuine charm that other revamped gastro pubs can only dream of. 5 ales were on pump (including Wandle, Pride and the excellent Progress by the little Pilgrim Brewery in Reigate). The service was very friendly and they had no problem in setting up a tab for us as we were eating. The food in question was very good and just the right side of a tenner. Behind the bar, the barman was using his free time well in arranging an assortment of music which was perfect for the atmosphere. There was also a turntable back there which we're sure gets some use at weekends. Although this is a small pub, they've managed to tuck a pool table in around the back so the drinkers and eaters don't have to shift their chairs and keep a look out for errant cues bumping into them. But, for us at least, one of the pub's greatest attributes is its inclusion within the local community. You name it; it does it - jumble sales, book clubs, quiz nights and loads more. Worth checking out their website for a full list of upcoming events, as well as their opening hours (they don't open until 4pm on weekdays). And to top it off in these cooler winter nights, it's got a real fireplace. Top marks for a top pub.

Its a good pub but it does not deserve the 5 pint rating. If this pub had been located elsewhere it would have been pretty much run of the mill. Its got a cosy gastoy sort of feel to it which you would normally find in more affluent parts of London.
Do give it a visit however!

I went to the Earl Ferrers for the first time on Saturday and was very pleasantly surprised. The food was top notch, the burger was one of the best i have had in a very long time, and the local beers were not far behind.
Great atmosphere, friendly staff, and it was also packed with locals, which was good to see.
I will definately be going back. Plus they serve flat whites!

This is a cool, little, well-hidden local pub that caters mainly to the residents of the surrounding few streets in Streatham. However, I am at a bit of a loss to understanding why the Earl would merit a '5-pint' rating - I would not say there is anything hugely exceptional about the place and, crucially, the ales do not appear to be properly looked after and have been close to undrinkable on the few occasions I have visited.
Having said that, it's worth a detour if you happen to be in the area; it makes a decent alternative to the Waterfront for a quiet drink and the grub looks good if maybe a little pricey.
