Even though the latest incarnation of The Elephant doesn't strike you as a pub with much longevity to it, there's been a pub on this site for a good few centuries (it even managed to survive the Great Fire). Nowadays, the Elephant consists of a narrow ground floor bar and a basement that's double the size and twice as comfortable. Expect the usual selection of Young's beers and a lunch menu of sandwiches and pies. Not one of the City's stellar heritage pubs, though it does a decent enough job for this part of town.
