Escape, Herne Hill
FancyaPint?'s review...
At last somewhere for the Herne Hill smart set. Rather than trying to compete with the solid boozers nearby, this is not just a bar, but a bar and art gallery. Or if you prefer, a continental style bar with some pictures on the wall which you can buy. As an art emporium it's an also ran, but as a drinks emporium, we reckon it should find its niche. There's an impressive choice of drinks, a tasteful but wallet-burningly expensive interior (including a plasma screen? Why?) some cocktails, comfy sofas, decent food and the apparently compulsory DJ's decks. It remains to be seen if it can lure sufficient drinkers away from the bright lights of Brixton, however.
