Hidden away on a back street just north of Finsbury Park, the Faltering Fullback is one of the best options within the vicinity of the station. This ivy-clad local stocks a decent range of beers, has a friendly, laid-back atmosphere, and also offers some great value Thai food for soaking up your liquid refreshment. The front section is the most traditional, split into three small areas around the bar, with a plethora of objects dangling from the ceiling. Some of these objects appear to be pretty heavy, but it's a health and safety nightmare we're prepared to risk. There's also an impressively cavernous back room full of picnic tables and a pool table that appears to attract a younger crowd. The multilevel back garden/terrace is another unexpected treat from what appears to be a rather compact boozer on first glance. In keeping with its name the pub regularly screens football and rugby, though it's pretty unobtrusive and quite possible to enjoy your drink if you're not interested in the game. Recommended.
