From the outside, this pub looks like a traditional country pub; inside, it's now a modern bistro. At least it wasn't all set for lunch when we were in last and the accommodating staff pointed us to a free table. The food smells emanating from the kitchen were divine, making us wish we hadn't already eaten! Recently reopened under new management - and tied to London's two Michelin-starred Hibiscus Restaurant - it's gone upmarket. We're guessing that Michelin stars aside, it had to change to entice the more well-to-do locals (ignoring, of course, grottily genteel pubs like the Grenadier) and we can't fault them for providing a decent 21st century experience. The gastro, sit-down-meal style of this 'pub' means it's not really the sort of place that people pop in for a pint and a chinwag, despite having 3 decent looking ales on the pumps. Would be a shame if there weren't two other boozers around the corner.
