Freud, Covent Garden
FancyaPint?'s review...
If this were a clichéd review, it would begin by saying Freud was a 'hidden gem', by virtue of nothing more than it's basement location. How hidden can it really be though, when it's continually busy and right in the centre of London? OK, so its slightly away from the throng of Covent Garden, but is still well-known enough by people who hanker for something different in WC2 to be a lively and fun place. Tucked down an ivy covered staircase this is a relatively small bar, dressed out with the most basic of chairs and tables and a slightly bohemian atmosphere. Cocktails are the main choice of drink, but bottles of imported German lager cater for those after such things, all served by pleasant, efficient staff. Customers are generally a friendly bunch, the implication that the more discerning afterwork drinker comes here. Just arrive early if you want a table.
