Friend at Hand, Bloomsbury
FancyaPint?'s review...
We remember this pub when it used to have it bit of a seafaring theme (the pub sign was of a lifeboat rescue) and the interior was done up to look like the inside of an capsized sailing ship (or at least that's how it appeared to us). More recently, the interior was returned to a more sensible, Victorianesque style of décor, more befitting the exterior and the sign now depicts a Saint Bernard. Basically, it's back to what it should be, an honest boozer, in a very touristy location, serving regular drink (Bombardier, Pride and Courage Best) and food to a thirsty and hungry clientele - local workers at lunchtime and tourists the rest of the time. All this offered with a genial smile on its face and plenty of sport on the telly.
