Camberwell has always been relatively overlooked by people who don't live in the immediate area but its a bit of a shame, as there's enough good places for a very satisfying evening of drinking. Happily we're able to report the Funky Munky doesn't let the side down. The interior makes it look rather like a trendy café, but the cheap cocktails and a handful of draft lagers indicate otherwise. Popular with students, many evenings seem to offer something from a different area of the musical spectrum, from 60's and 70's on Fridays to Jazz on Sundays - and its free before 11pm, too. You'd also struggle to get friendlier service in Camberwell and this gave the place an unhurried atmosphere lacking in some other bars and pubs. Currently a three pinter, if the music nights are as good as they sound, then future visits might just push its rating a little higher.

How to find the Funky Munky pub

Not really near a tube, but Denmark Hill train station is relatively near. Plenty of bus routes to Camberwell though. Our advice is go to Oval tube and get either 36, 185, 436 from there. The 35 and 45 go from Brixton, too. Once into Camberwell keep an eye out for the pub, but its opposite the Hermit's Cave pub.
