George, Fulham
FancyaPint?'s review...
The George is a recent addition to the Young's portfolio, taking over an ageing local earlier in the year and, flying in the face of most of the refurbishments undertaken by Young's recently, had been done up as pub, rather than a style bar. And it's all the better for it, the outside may be a rather foreboding-looking black, but inside, it's a pretty conventional boozer, with a few quirky touches, such as the world time clocks that don't tell the time. The beer is mostly, but not exclusively Young's, so there are no complaints on that front and the service is friendly and efficient. There are cheap pies on offer at certain times and for the rest of the time, they'll happily get you a pizza from across the road and there are board games too, so you can eat and play domino(e)s simultaneously. Despite its proximity to Stamford Bridge and its location on the main Fulham drag, the George seems to be much more of a locals' place than many of the pubs and bars round here and for that, it gets a well-deserved three pint marking from us.
