Last time we were in this pub, it wasn't a Wetherspoon pub, so that probably gives you an idea of how long its been. It's reasonable enough, but it does fill up with commuters of an evening, then clears out to relative quiet. One end is at street level, but the large part of the pub is subterranean, with access to Bank Underground just across the courtyard. The beers on the taps are very well kept, as we'd expect in one of Wetherspoon's pubs and the demographic is probably a lot better than some city centre pubs we could name (but won't), with a mix of local City types, workers and the odd tourist. You could do worse, but probably not as cheaply - under £3 a pint is a relative bargain in the Square Mile. And frankly, it's better than we remember.

How to find the Green Man pub

Take the exit from Bank station which is labelled for Poultry and Cheapside. If you find yourself next to the Midland Bank, it's across the road. Once you get above ground, it's difficult to miss - it's the ruddy sandstone building on in the shape of a wedge with Austin Reed and the Gap at street level. The entrance to the pub itself is located in the central atrium and down a flight of stairs.
