Guy, Earl of Warwick, Welling
FancyaPint?'s review...
We're not yet sure why this pretty basic place next door to Welling United FC's Park View Road ground (Conference South league, in case you were wondering) takes its name from one of the most prestigious titles in the peerages of the British Isles. While the park in question (Danson Park) is pleasant enough with its lake, you can't actually see it from the pub, although you can see it from the far rear terrace at the ground. In fact, the view outside the pub is of a somewhat drab southeast London suburb, most notably out back where a couple of benches on a patio - somewhat optimistically referred to as a "beer garden" by the owners - and the covered smokers' corner look out over a particularly unsightly low-rise block of flats. It's been refurbished lately, but the interior is rather bland and not much to speak of. We found the service polite and friendly, but the pub was three-quarters empty and we have heard that it can get a little rough. The only real ale is Courage Best, the remaining selection being typical of the football local. It's handy for Welling games (although the "Wings Bar" inside the ground is more fun), but there are one or two better places in an area which is, admittedly, hardly a pub oasis.

How to find the Guy, Earl of Warwick pub
From Welling BR, go down the slope to the road at the bottom. Turn left and go to the end of that road (Central Avenue). Then turn left onto Bellegrove Road. Keep walking left and Bellegrove Road becomes Welling High Street, and eventually Park View Road. The pub is on the other side of the road, just before Welling United FC (approx 1km). Several buses serve this stretch, including No. 51 (Orpington-Sidcup-Welling-Woolwich).
