Half Moon, Stepney
FancyaPint?'s review...
This place starts off very well - an impressive conversion of one of the previous homes of the Half Moon Young People's Theatre, it's well-designed, spacious, looks interesting and serves an enormous range of well-priced drink, including Cask Marque ales and cheap food. And, unfortunately, that's as good as it gets. The Wetherspoon pricing policy (we're talking provincial prices in the centre of London here) makes this place very attractive to groups, that, whilst we would not consider them to be undesirable (and we won't name names) tend to be over enthusiastic about the booze (especially at these prices) and, as a result, end up in bringing the tone of the place down. It's just unfortunate we guess, transplant this pub to a location with a classier catchment area and you'd be looking at a four pint rating - alternatively raise the prices (but that would never do). A Catch-22 made manifest.
