From its leaded windows to its checkerboard tables, this is a wonderfully preserved traditional pub. Add on the Beverley Brook trundling past and you're looking at one with all the bearings of a National Trust property in Suffolk. The timeless feel continues inside: all well-kept ales, pub games and regulars who look like they've spent a fair bit of time here. Still, we're all for a boozer where the whole pub gathers round the TV for the horse racing and it's possible to strike up conversation with your fellow punters. A quiz on Tuesday nights and live Jazz on Wednesdays are added features. Places like this one die off every year in London - here's hoping this one stays the course. Pop in and help it along.

How to find the Halfway House pub

Pub is just off the Upper Richmond Road, in between Barnes BR station and Mortlake BR station. From Barnes BR station it's a walk through the woods (not recommended at night) or from Mortlake BR station, turn right and keep walking up onto Upper Richmond Road. Turn left along the Road, pass the Hare and Hounds and keep walking. The turning for Priests Bridge is on the left.
